Leiden University is organizing a series of Public History lectures in 2020.

In the first part of the lecture series, students are taught the more theoretical aspects of public history through practical assignments (street history, the roles of media and museums, politically sensitive history and commercialization ).

The second part of the course entails a practical assignment based on the Pilgrims / Mayflower400 /Leiden400 case. Students will focus on the history of the Pilgrims and the ways in which the Pilgrim Year will be commemorated in 2020.

During the final weeks, students will work on a practical assignment in which they create a design for a product or activity particularly relevant to public history.
